Shandin Hills-San Bernardino Hiking after Bagels!

Distance: 1 Mile
Time: 1 hour
Seasons: Winter
Parking: Residential
What to Bring: Sunscreen, water, and hiking shoes for the steep areas.

Fun hike, but very steep at first. There was a bit of scrambling to find the main trail. If you veer to left onto the street there is a more paved trail, although it is steep too. Hard going up, but easy going down. Nice green, rolling hills and nice views. We parked at the end of the street and took the first trail we saw.

Where to Eat: AJ’s Bagels

Delicious muffins, bagels, and chips. The staff were very welcoming. Fun place to fuel up before or after a hike!

Blair Park-San Bernardino Hiking and Burritos

Distance: 2.3 Miles
Time: 1 hour
Seasons: Winter
Parking: Residential
What to Bring: Sunscreen, water, and comfy shoes (hiking shoes are optional).

I went to Blair Park a lot as a kid so it was neat to find a trail that I have been to before. You can hike this trail from the actual park, but this a trail nearby that also goes up to the antennas and beyond. I just went up  to the antennas and then came back around to do a loop. I started with the first trail on the left and it’s a bit steeper but if you straight it ends up at the same place but is less steep.

Where to Eat: Rosa Maria’s
I have been going here for years. I usually get the garbage burrito and a root beer, but everything on the menu is amazing.

Jurupa Valley-Post Rain Hike with Breakfast Burritos

Distance:  1.96 Miles
Time: 1 hour
Seasons: Winter
Parking: Residential
What to Bring: Sunscreen, water, and hiking shoes for the steep spots.

I really like hiking in this area. It was right after a storm so the views were great and lots of poofy clouds. There are many trailheads and you can go in several directions. I started hiking to the right and went to the top of the hill. I made the mistake of taking the steep trail down and was sore for several days. Not a lot of people on the trail either.  This place has become one of my new favorites!

Where to Eat: Joyce Burger and Rice

Tasty breakfast burritos and friendly staff.

Mt. Rubidoux-Dog Park Trail

Distance: 3 Miles
Time: 1.25 hours
Seasons: Winter
Parking: Carlson Dog Park 4727 Scout Ln, Riverside, CA 92501
What to Bring: Sunscreen and water.

I call this trail “Mt. Rubidoux-Dog Park Trail” because the trail starts at the end of the parking lot by the Carlson Dog Park. If you hike the main trail at Mt. Rubidoux there are a lot of people. But if you take the trail from the other side, there are few people on the trail and it will connect to the main trail. For this I took the trail and then hiked the main trail to the top and then came back down.

Where to Eat: TBD

The ‘M’ Hike

Distance: 4.80 Miles
Time: 2-3 hours
Seasons: Fall, Winter, and Spring
Parking: Dirt lot. At the time of the hike, we did not pay, but always check the signs and bulletin boards.
What to Bring: Sunscreen and water.

This is fun hike to do in the winter when everything is green and the weather is cool.  The summer months are too hot unless you start early in the morning. We took the trail to the left of the dirt road which is more steep and then took the main road back as one big loop. You can also see burros as you drive up to the parking lot!
